Comic-Con Episode IV: A Fan's Hope: Movie Trailers

As a longtime comicbook fan I have always been interested in attending.  Maybe in the next few years.  It looks like it would be a lot of fun to be surrounded by that many people that have so much love, passion,  and devotion towards one creative outlet.

The Art of Adi Granov

In comics no one has a style quite like Adi Granov.  He was one of the first artists to bring photoshop into the comic industry and he arrive out of nowhere with a full realized style.  Most of his work has been on Iron Man, and he was eventually brought on as a designer when a film version was being developed.  Here is a collection of both Iron Man comic and film art as well as a few others from the pages of Marvel.

Drive soundtrack and Symmetry: Themes for an Imaginary Film

Knowing nothing about this film besides a preview I saw months ago that just basically showed Ryan Gosling sitting around in a 1970s muscle car, I watched it last night and it was one of the best, and coolest films I have seen in a long time.  The one thing that helped elivate and set this film apart from most others is the pulsing 1980s tinged electro soundtrack; sometimes krautrock, sometimes industrial, always cool.  Really great with the stylized, oversaturated orange and green Los Angeles of today.  The song below is played over the opening credits and is one of a few tracks that feature vocals.

Nightcall (feat. Lovefoxxx) by Kavinsky

While looking for the soundtrack and who was featured throughout the film I found that origanally the director Nicolas Winding Refn wanted Johnny Jewel of Glass Candy to score.  The producers didn't trust a 20 year old to score the film so they hired Cliff Martinez who was the perfect backup plan.  Three years in the making, Symmetry, the project that began as a conceptual tangent between Glass Candy, Chromatics, Mirage, and Desire's more abstract sides shows possibly what Jewel had in mind if he would have been able to write the score.  Symmetry isn't his score for Drive but comes from the same place and has the same influences as Martinez's score.  An alternate audio history I suppose.

If you like Drive I suggest you watch Refn's last film Bronson, which tells the true life story of Britains most notorious inmate.  It features a batshit, insane performance by Tom Hardy who will become a household name this summer after squaring off against Christian Bale as Bane in Christopher Nolan's final Batman: The Dark Knight Rises.

Black Mountain soundtrack Year Zero surf doc

Vancouver's own psychedelic prog-rock outfit Black Mountain will release a soundtrack to the Surf Doc "Year Zero" at the beginning of April.  It will be a collection of a few old songs, unreleased songs, and a couple new tunes.  Below you can watch the trailer for the movie as well as listen to a new Black Mountain track called Mary Lou (if you click on the little arrow icon on the side you can download it for free.)

The Amazing Spider-Man Trailer

This looks a lot better then the Sam Raimi Spider-Man movies from a few years ago.  I really like all the casting, hopefully their is a good script for them to work from...you never know with Hollywood.

West of Memphis Trailer

A documentary showing the nearly twenty year struggle to get the West Memphis Three out of jail, or at least a retrial, for murders they never commited.  According to the courts they are stil responsible, even though there is no evidence, but at least they are out of jail now.  The real killer still walks free though.

It's Busey Time! T-shirts

Tomorrow I pick up It's Busey Time! T-shirts in both Black and White in both Ladies and Mens sizes.  I will only be selling these in person though because it has been costing me money to send them using Canada Post.  If you want one send me a message or email and I'll find a way to get one to you.

Visual FX from Boardwalk Empire

Boardwalk Empire VFX Breakdowns of Season 2 from Brainstorm Digital on Vimeo.

This video breaks down the flawless visual effects used in Boardwalk Empire season 2, the best season of any TV show in my opinion.  Seamlessly they transform location shots into a bygone era of America 90 years earlier at the birth of modern organized crime.

Fucked Up: Chinese Zodiac Singles

In anticipation of the Febraury 15th release of the newest in their yearly single collection that coincide with the Chinese Calendar (which has fallen a year behind), Canadian hardcore/metal giants Fucked Up are streaming all of their previous longplaying singles. They are all worth a listen and a few are my favorite Fucked up tracks.

Bringing Back the Gold Standard

If Ron Paul is able to receive the Republican nomination, one of the most appealing part of his campaign is to bring back the Gold Standard and in turn being stability to the US economy as well as the world economy while eliminating the world debt problem in one fell swoop.  In this clip he explains why a Gold Standard is needed and never should have been abandoned.

East Bound & Down Season 3 Trailer

Oh man I can't wait for the return of Kenny Powers.  I thought the second season wasn't as good as the first but now that he is back in America it looks as though this season will be a return to form with the over the top Kenny Powers being grounded by realistic supporting characters.  This is the conclusion of the series so will Kenny Power finish on top or end up riding his ego back into the ditch?
