New Black Star album in 2012?

Sure looks that way.  Over the last few days Talib Qweli and Mos Def (now calling himself Yasiin Bey) have released two new singles that may or maynot end up on the album.  If this does end up happening, their second ablun together would come out nearly 15 years after theit classic debut.  The Fix Up is produced by Madlib and You Already Know was produced by Oh No, Madlib's labelmate and accomplished younger brother.

Here is my favorite song off the first record a track that has never left my playlist since I first heard it.

Slowmo Space Launch and the new NASA rover

This has some really spectacular shots from the last few launches of the recently retired shuttle program.

Today, November 26, NASA launched a new rover, Curiousity, to explore Mars.  The rover will land on the Red Planet sometime in August 2012 and is equiped with multiple HD cameras, which will give us our first clear images of the surface of another planet.  These images are from In Focus, as well as many others and details of Curiousity and its mission.

Questlove: Repaint

I saved over this one a few weeks ago and put it off to the side but I really want to do this picture because there will be a lot of different elements coming together on this and new tricks I learned on Photoshop that I'm looking forward to experimenting with.  Will hopefully colour this very soon.

Stanley Lau (Artgerm)

This guys work is really amazing his style is a combination of anime and comic illustration but his colouring and use of colour and light is what makes his work standout.  He is well know for his pinups and girls but he can draw males and monsters just as well.  Whether dynamic action or static poses all his figures come to life.  You can vist is Deviant Art account to see more images.

Colouring the Castle

Its been a while since I've put any of my own art up I have been working on getting some shirts and posters together, at the same time I have had to go out of town for work a few times, so the artwork has been slow.  I'm going to hopefully have those tshirts ready in a few weeks but more likely it will be longer if I have to go out of town again.

I spent all night making brick brushes for this one and then used a couple photos that I liked the colour to layout a starting point.  I think this one could take me a while but its going to be good.

Zomby: Labrinyth

A new track from UK producer Zomby from his forethcoming Nothing EP.  Sounds more like dancehall then any of his other tracks but almost everything this guy releases sounds different then the last.

Here are a few older tracks that I really like:

Ron Paul Educating the Public

Ron Paul saying exactly what is wrong with the system and his solutions, unique in politics.  He talks about his plan for medical in the US which I havent heard him go into detail about until now.

Quilt: Penobska Oakwalk

The singer sounds almost exactly the same as the guy from Tapes n' Tapes and the woman and the melodies sounds like Bodies of Water and the music is lo-fi, hazy, classic folk rock psychedelia.

National Geographic Photo Competition

National Geographic is holding a photo competition of the best reader submitted photographs or 2011. You can search through multiple galleries and even help out the judging by voting on National Geographic.com.  If you click on any of the images below you will be taken to a gallery by In Focus, of larger, high quality images, which is a good, quick summary of the many photos submitted for the contest.

Ron Paul taking names again!

Ron Paul still kicking ass and taking names.  All of the other candidates just stare at him and you can see them thinking as he educates them as to how government should be ran.  Rick Perry had an amazingly funny breakdown as he seemed drunk and unable to answer anything without rambling and slurring.  As Ron Paul builds steam the rest of the Republican candidates seem to be stummbling behind.

Goon Trailer

A comedy about hockey.

Black Keys: Lonely Boy Video

The newest single from the newest Black Keys (their 7th) album El Camino. The video is a simple and borrows from many Spike Jonze videos but whatever it works well with the song and the guys dancing is pretty funny.

GTA 5 Trailer

The only video game I have played a lot of in the last few years so naturally I'm looking forward to causing absolute mayhem once this comes out.  There is no stress relief quite like being able to drive down the highway at full speed in a Ferrari, dropping grenades out the window watching the 20 cop cars chasing after you get blown skyhigh and then jumping out of the car just to see what happens.

Mister Heavenly: Bronx Sniper

A video the matches the batshit insanity of the song and its warped lyrics.  One of my favorite songs of the year and one of the coolest videos.

Memory Tapes: Magic Sequence

When Memory Tapes released their first album a few years ago they also released Magic Sequence, a mixtape with alternative versions of songs on that first album, as well as many unreleased songs.  I haven't listened to this mixtape in years due to being forgetten because of the perfection of their Chillwave debut.  This morning it came on and thanks to shuffle on iTunes I rediscovered that this is just as good, if not better then the album.  Click on the image to download Magic Sequence for free.

Justin Reed

I found out about Justin Reed's work through my Aunt a few weeks ago after she bought a few prints of his.  He paints collages of charactures and portraits from different movie scenes.  His work is dissportionate and warped, which I really like.
